Biology Foodborne Microbiology Molecular Pathogens
Environmental Microbiology by Raina M. Maier, The field of environmental microbiology encompasses aspects of several areas of study including microbial ecology, molecular genetics, and environmental science. Environmental Microbiology is the first book to offer a comprehensive discussion of this field as a discipline, which the authors define as the study of microbial fate and activity in air, water, and soil, and the resulting impact on human health and welfare. While the roots of environmental microbiology can be traced to sanitary engineering (water and wastewater treatment), the field has grown to include other practical issues such as bioremediation, the control of known and emerging waterborne pathogens, microbial risk assessment, and environmental biotechnology. Five general areas are emphasized in this text: (i) Foundation chapters, (ii) microbial environments, (iii) detection of microbial activity, (iv) the impact of microbial activity on the environment in terms of nutrient cycling and pollutant fate, and (v) detection and control of pathogens in the environment. Designed for courses at senior undergraduate and graduate levels, Environmental Microbiology will also serve as an essential reference for environmental microbiologists, microbial ecologists, and environmental engineers, as well as those interested in epidemiology, water and wastewater treatment, and biotechnology.
Molecular Cellular Microbiology by Phillipe Sansonetti, This volume in the Methods in Microbiology series focuses on the interaction of microorganisms and the host cell, presenting detailed experimental techniques for modern microbiological research. The book focuses on current technical methods including imaging technologies, cellular biochemistry, and the establishment and exploitation of cell assay systems. Also covered are methods for studying gene expression and detecting virulence genes. By studying the major techniques used to study cross talks between microbes and cells, rather than just presenting systems, this book distinguishes itself as an essential guide for all researchers working in microbiology, cell biology, and immunology. Key Features * Focuses on current technical methods, including imaging technologies, cellular biochemistry, establishment and exploitation of cell assay systems * Covers promising new areas such as global analysis of genome expression and proteomic analysis of cellular components. * Encompasses the most recent and innovative techniques such as microarrays, new experimental models of infection and new cell assay systems * Provides a large array of models covering the various strategies used by pathogens to infect their host * Includes all current methods developed to study gene expression and detect virulence genes.
Molecular Biology (journal) - Molecular Biology is a scientific journal which covers a wide scope of problems related to molecular, cell and computational biology including genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, molecular virology and immunology, molecular development biology, and molecular evolution. Molecular Biology publishes reviews, mini-reviews, experimental and theoretical works, short communications and hypoteses. Molecular biology - Molecular biology is the study of biology at a molecular level. The field overlaps with other areas of biology and chemistry, particularly genetics and biochemistry. European Molecular Biology Laboratory - The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is a molecular biology research institution supported by 18 European countries. The EMBL was created in 1974 and has laboratories in Heidelberg, Germany; Hamburg, Germany; Grenoble, France; and Hinxton, UK, and an external Research Programme in Monterotondo, Italy. International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology - The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB).
